Volvo Revealed A Mixed Reality Helmet For Car Development
The company believes that the new device can reduce the development time of the car.
Volvo Cars, together with Verizon, a Finnish manufacturer of high-tech augmented reality helmets, has introduced a mixed-reality helmet for car development. This is reported in the company’s press release. The Varjo XR-1 helmet provides high-resolution mixed or virtual reality transmission. The company believes that the new device can reduce the development time of the car due to the fact that it allows you to evaluate the functions and design immediately after its development.
In comparison with the previous model, the Varjo XR-1 helmet has HD cameras that provide mixed reality transmission. This technology will allow designers and engineers of Volvo Cars to «manage» the cars of the future and evaluate their functions in simulation mode before the actual production of cars. The Varjo XR-1 helmet will also allow the company’s engineers to develop and evaluate an active safety solution. Experts will be able to drive real cars in Volvo research centers and test virtual systems in real conditions. «From the very beginning, we wanted to create a product that can organically connect the real and virtual world. Volvo Cars ‘ cutting-edge use of the Varjo XR-1 helmet proves that Varjo technology makes possible things that were previously unavailable. Together with Volvo, we have started a new era of professional mixed reality, » said Nico Aiden, founder and CEO of Varjo.
